Jody DeRidder from the University of Alabama had the honor of being selected as one of 24 participants from across the country to be trained at the Library of Congress in the inaugural Digital Preservation and Outreach Education (DPOE: http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/education/) Train-the-trainer initiative. She will be giving a series of 3 1-hour webinars on basic digital preservation, based on the DPOE training, for the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL: http://www.aserl.org/). The Archival Education and Research Institute (AERI) is pleased to announce a recruitment and outreach scholarship program to encourage minority students at the undergraduate and graduate levels to consider undertaking doctoral education focusing in Archival Studies, a multidisciplinary field that examines the social, cultural, political, and technological imperatives and professional practices of record keeping and remembering in society. The 26th annual Western Archives Institute is an intensive, two-week program that provides integrated instruction in basic archival practices to individuals with a variety of backgrounds, including those whose jobs require a fundamental understanding of archival skills, but who have little or no previous archives education; those who have expanding responsibility for archival materials; those who are practicing archivists but have not received formal instruction; and those who demonstrate a commitment to an archival career.

Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive seeking consultant archivist

Pacific Northwest Railroad Archive in Burien, Washington is requesting proposals from consultant archivists to assist with a grant-funded historic record digitization project. The work includes developing a digitization process document, training volunteers to digitize records, and developing a preservation plan for the records. Consultant must have a State of Washington business license when the proposal is submitted.

The online Directory of Archival and Manuscript Repositories in the Northwest is now available on the Northwest Archivists website at:

The Directory provides access to information about heritage institutions in the Northwest that contain archival, manuscript, and photograph materials. If your institution is not on the list but would like to be, contact Linda Long at llong@uoregon.edu.
