The University of Puget Sound Collins Memorial Library is pleased to announce recruitment for a new position of Archivist/Digital Collections Coordinator. Primary responsibilities include: managing all aspects of the Archives and Digital Collections. In addition, this position serves as the primary contact for the library’s special collections materials.

Begin Date: Preference is for the candidate to commence employment by August 2012 for the fall semester. Reports to the Library Director. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit application materials no later than June 15th 2012 to ensure consideration. More information

FREE Digital Preservation Webinars

Jody DeRidder from the University of Alabama had the honor of being selected as one of 24 participants from across the country to be trained at the Library of Congress in the inaugural Digital Preservation and Outreach Education (DPOE: http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/education/) Train-the-trainer initiative. She will be giving a series of 3 1-hour webinars on basic digital preservation, based on the DPOE training, for the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL: http://www.aserl.org/). The Archival Education and Research Institute (AERI) is pleased to announce a recruitment and outreach scholarship program to encourage minority students at the undergraduate and graduate levels to consider undertaking doctoral education focusing in Archival Studies, a multidisciplinary field that examines the social, cultural, political, and technological imperatives and professional practices of record keeping and remembering in society. The 26th annual Western Archives Institute is an intensive, two-week program that provides integrated instruction in basic archival practices to individuals with a variety of backgrounds, including those whose jobs require a fundamental understanding of archival skills, but who have little or no previous archives education; those who have expanding responsibility for archival materials; those who are practicing archivists but have not received formal instruction; and those who demonstrate a commitment to an archival career.
