Disaster Recovery Resources
May 15, 2002 – Puget Sound Regional Archives, Bellevue

Barbara Benson, Director of Records Management Services, University of Washington, discussed the records recovery operation that followed the May 2001 arson at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture.

Michael Storino, Water Damage Recovery Account Manager for Munters Moisture Control Services, provided details about the various methods of treating water-damaged records.

Susan Pelaez, Workplace Disaster Education Presenter for the American Red Cross of Seattle-King County, explained appropriate procedures for disaster preparation and recovery in the work environment.

This was the Seattle Area Archivists’ last meeting for the 2001-2002 season. Election of new Steering Committee members, Jodee Fenton, Avril Madison, and Carolyn McClurkan was announced. SAA member Peter Schmid won the grand door prize of paid registration fees for the Northwest Archivists 2003 Conference.

King County Oral History Inventory Project
March 20, 2002 – Puget Sound Regional Archives, Bellevue

JonLee Joseph, oral historian and story teller, discussed the process of developing an inventory of oral histories held by organizations and individuals in King County. Ms. Joseph told anecdotes about the people and facilities she encountered while creating the inventory.

Jerry Handfield, the new Washington State Archivist, shared experiences and lessons of his move from his long-time home in Indiana, and his position as Indiana State Archivist, to his new job and first days experiencing the ways and weather of Washington.

Dating Photographs: Learning More About Photographs by Using Their Clues
October 17, 2001 – Puget Sound Regional Archives, Bellevue

Nicolette Bromberg, Curator of Photographs and Graphics for the University of Washington, provided information on dating and identifying photographic materials and subjects.
