Volunteer Archivist Position – Gage Academy of Art
Description:
Gain valuable archival experience while giving back to the community by gathering, arranging, describing, and making available the records of the Gage Academy of Art in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.
Duration: Negotiable
Schedule: Negotiable
Collection Size: Approximately 5 or 6 cubic feet with new material coming in every quarter
The perfect person for this position should:
- Possess knowledge of archival and records management principles and techniques.
- Be comfortable with little supervision and formal direction.
- Be able to find archival solutions without dedicated resources (funds, staff time, etc.).
- Be able to communicate archival procedures and instructions to and work with academy staff.
Tasks:
Refolder and merge incoming records
Develop a plan for electronic archival records storage
Process a small collection of historic photographic prints
Create detailed instructions for staff and student volunteers
Work with the Seattle Public Library on the donation of printed material
