Forging a New Vision for Religious Archives

Thursday, May 6, 2021

9 a.m. PDT || 12 Noon EDT || 5:00 p.m. GMT

Forging a New Vision for Religious Archives is an international webinar focusing on the preservation and promotion of Catholic religious community archives. Reflecting the diversity of the Church’s religious institutes, religious women and men served a global audience by sponsoring educational institutions, medical care facilities, charitable agencies, and catechetical missions.  These historical collections provide foundational material for understanding world history and offer primary sources for documenting the urban working-class experience, immigrant assimilation, gender identity, the formation of ethnic leadership, and the religious encounter with non-Western peoples.

Each speaker provides relevant information from the point of view of a religious leader, an archivist, and a scholar. The webinar provides an opportunity for people to understand the importance of preserving these records and making them available to community members, residents, scholars.  Although communities may close, their work and legacy will live on in these repositories.
