SAA Awards and Scholarships 2018

‘Tis the season for the Society of American Archivists’ awards and scholarships! Below are brief highlights of each of the awards and scholarships currently open, which include financial support for archival education and attendance of the SAA Annual Meeting, as well as recognition of achievements in the archival field such as programming, finding aids, and publications. For Students & Recent Graduates

  • Donald Peterson Student Travel Award
    • Provides financial support for archival students and recent graduates to travel to the SAA Annual Meeting

  • Josephine Forman Scholarship
    • Provides financial support to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival science
  • F. Gerald Ham & Elsie Ham Scholarship
    • Provides financial support to graduate students in a professional archival studies program
  • Mosaic Scholarship
    • Provides financial and mentoring support to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival science
  • Harold T. Pinkett Minority Student Award
    • Recognizes and acknowledges minority graduate students, such as those of African, Asian, Latinx, or Native American descent, who, through scholastic and personal achievement, manifest an interest in becoming professional archivists and active members of the Society of American Archivists
  • Theodore Calvin Pease Award
    • Recognizes superior writing achievements by students of archival studies

 

For Archives & Archives Workers

  • Archival Innovator Award
    • Recognizes an archivist, a group of archivists, a repository, or an organization that demonstrates the greatest overall current impact on the profession or their communities
  • Brenda S. Banks Travel Award
    • Provides financial support to attend the SAA Annual Meeting for people of color working in archives
  • C. F. W. Coker Award for Description
    • Recognizes finding aids, finding aid systems, projects that involve innovative development in archival description, or descriptive tools that enable archivists to produce effective finding aids
  • Distinguished Service Award
    • Recognizes an archival institution, education program, nonprofit organization, or government organization that has provided outstanding service to its public and has made an exemplary contribution to the archives profession
  • Diversity Award
    • Recognizes an individual, group, or institution for outstanding contributions in advancing diversity within the archives profession, SAA, or the archival record
  • Fellows of the Society of American Archivists
    • The highest honor bestowed on individuals by SAA and is awarded for outstanding contributions to the archival profession
  • Mark A. Greene Emerging Leader Award
    • Honors early-career archivists who have completed archival work of broad merit, demonstrated significant promise of leadership, and/or performed commendable service to the archives profession
  • Waldo Gifford Leland Award
    • Honors writing of superior excellence and usefulness in the field of archival history, theory, or practice
  • Spotlight Award
    • Recognizes the contributions of individuals who work for the good of the archives profession and of archival collections, and whose work would not typically receive public recognition
  • Sister M. Claude Lane, O.P., Memorial Award
    • Recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of religious archives
  • Preservation Publication Award
    • Recognizes the author(s) or editor(s) of an outstanding published work related to archives preservation
  • Philip M. Hamer and Elizabeth Hamer Kegan Award
    • Recognizes an archivist, editor, group of individuals, or institution that has increased public awareness of a specific body of documents (which can be a specific archival collection or thematic aggregation) through compilation, transcription, exhibition, or public presentation of archives or manuscript materials for educational, instructional, or other public purpose
