SAA Awards and Scholarships 2018

‘Tis the season for the Society of American Archivists’ awards and scholarships! Below are brief highlights of each of the awards and scholarships currently open, which include financial support for archival education and attendance of the SAA Annual Meeting, as well as recognition of achievements in the archival field such as programming, finding aids, and publications. For more information and to apply, follow the links to the official SAA pages for each award. All applications and nominations are due February 28, 2018. SAA seeks award nominations

The Society of American Archivists is seeking nominations for the following 2017 awards. The deadline for all nominations is February 28.

!. The Distinguished Service Award — Nominees should be an archival institution that has “provided outstanding service to its public and has made an exemplary contribution to the archives profession”. Archival institutions, education programs, nonprofit organizations, and government organizations providing service or support to the archives community in North America are eligible. 2. The Donald Peterson Student Travel Award — This award supports students and recent graduates from graduate archival programs within North America to attend SAA’s Annual Meeting. The goal of the scholarship is to stimulate greater participation in the activities of the Association by students and recent graduates. This participation must include either a presentation of research during the Annual Meeting or active participation in an SAA-sponsored committee, section, or roundtable. 3. The Waldo Gifford Leland award — this prize encourages and rewards writing of superior excellence and usefulness in the field of archival history, theory, or practice. The author(s) of a monograph, finding aid, or documentary publication published in English during the previous calendar year is / are eligible. The Society of American Archivists (SAA) is asking for nominations for its 2017 Diversity Award. This award recognizes an individual, group, or institution for outstanding contributions in advancing diversity within the archives profession, SAA, or the archival record.
